Good questions well asked

Man I really do ask a lot of questions when I am teaching. This article was really helpful for that reason. It was helpful to think about the different kind of questions you can ask and what functions different types of questions can serve.

The logistics of asking questions is something that I have been struggling with too. It wasn't really mentioned in this article much, but how you as a question is as important as what kind of question you asked. I think this is especially true with kids. We ask questions to get our students to think about things and also to lead us into our next points. I have caught myself asking rhetorical questions a lot. This really doesn't work with kids. They all raise their hands and then are disappointed and confused when I answer it myself and move on. I just get into the habit of having all of the information come out in Q and A that sometimes I forget that it is an option just to have the A sometimes.
