3 Seconds

Three seconds, amazing the difference this article claims that little bit of time will make, allowing "thinking time". It doesn't seem so hard to let them think for 3 seconds. Yet, how does that actually play out. We have 15 min stations most of the time in Farm craft, we don't have time to talk to the kids about our expectations, or change what they may routinely experience in how questions are asked of them. Or can we? It doesn't hurt to try. I need to start thinking about the questions that I ask in farm craft, and see if there are ways to improve the question.
Another thing that I found fascinating, was the idea that the best questions we ask are those that intersect the individuals own personal experience, the knowledge that they posses, and the broader context. Such a task to ask good questions! I suppose that explains why, despite evidence to the contrary, that most teachers are asking the convergent questions, rather than a mixture of both. Interesting that a mixture of both types of questions is still considered the most effective. Well, I suppose practice and experimenting with various questions is the only way to figure out what works, and what connects to the students. Such an interesting challenge, and why every day of teaching is new.
