Fear Not!

I am not alone in my fear of snakes! Okay, so that wasn't all that surprising. There were however some other things that were more surprising about this study. It seems strange to me that getting lost, is a fear for many that are on a field trip. That is not something that I would have ever thought of, and I am glad that this did not seem to be an issue for any of the 7th graders during the night hike. Especially since persons are on a guided hike with teachers and parents, this is something that really should be kept in mind. Keeping fears in mind is extremely important, since it makes complete sense, that when students are experiencing fear, they will have trouble learning. Since farm craft is one of the field trips that younger children come to Merry Lea for, it would be interesting to note if this is enough exposure to wild places to lessen some of these fears. In some ways, since they are in and out of buildings, in an area that is more developed, it doesn't seem like it would work. It does give some known quantity to coming and exploring in future field trips or with family that is perhaps beneficial. This is probably some great information to keep in mind for the Enchanted Forest.
