BMTs

I really enjoyed reading this. As I was reading I couldn't tell you how many times I could remember my old teachers using some of these same techniques on me as a little one. While at times I really disagreed with some of the ways the article had things worded and talked about them, I do agree with the main point they were trying to make. For instance, I understand that life skills are important for the students to learn. However, the way in which they suggested addressing the students that chose poorly isn't how I would think to do it. I don't think that young students will necessarily understand the true meaning to most of the life skill that were outlined in the paper. However, that depends greatly on age and also level of maturity. I can't ask Johnny what life skills he didn't use when Johnny might not understand the true meaning of respect at the age of 5. So I think it would of been nice if the article proposed a few other methods of dealing with this issue with different levels of development both age wise and maturity wise as well.

  1. Even though Johnny may be 5 it is important for him to behave in the manner stated by the program. He may not fully understand the meaning or respect, but he understands that what he was doing was not respectful. Therefore, reinforcing the respectful behavior. It is important to know that just because the child is young does not mean everything should be dumbed down or overlooked.
